More summer Yoga teaching

August 10, 2008

Ok, to say this summer’s teaching schedule has been lean...... would be being kind. The economic downturn as been effecting gyms and classes. Not the end of the world as most of my classes will be back in September.
Bit strange though to be so far and yet so near to Teaching. As I mentioned in June it has it’s upsides and it’s downsides. I really have gotten to know a few more of the students and as ever it is a learning experience, I’m feeling that the classes are getting stronger and the students more receptive (perhaps it’s just that the dedicated are more likely to come in from the warmth of the outside). Either way I have been enjoying the slower schedule.
The most amazing thing though is my own capacity to learn, I find that the smaller the class the more questions I get asked (which really throws my whirling brain off I have to admit, but it is always welcome) I find it’s been feeding my personal need for knowledge also. For example I have had a few Pregnant students which has (forced me to be fair) to research more comfortable positions and change the dynamics of the classes to suit all levels at once (which I can tell you is a challenge). I’m not sure how successful this has been, but on the whole I really am getting more flexible with the classes.
In fact I don’t even think I plan the classes anymore, what I may do is once a week post on this website what Asana/Pranayama I’ve been working on myself and adapt that to each class for the week, create a theme if you will for the proceeding classes.
